Project Description: Khlong Tha Dan Project is located at Lat. 14 deg. 8’-34" N, Long. 101 deg 19’-27" E, at Ban Tha Dan, Tambon Hin Tueng, Amphoe Muang, Nakhon Nayok Province, 22 km upstream of Amphoe Muang. The project study area is approx. 194 sq.km. covering mountainous area with average height of +400 m. msl., as well as a flat plain. The stream descending down the mountain in a steep-loped channel thus capable of causing flash floods. The area downstream from the dam is a flat plain with the average height of+3-4 m. msl. The plain starts off as a narrow strip of land at the foot of the mountain and then gradually expands downstream.
Dambreak modelling requires high expertise in modelling technique to model dambreak mechanism and extreme flood flow. The latest technology in mathematical software modelling and experienced staff were employed in the development of the Emergency Preparedness Plan. The Plan provides an integrated action plan with reliable information for agencies involved to evacuate communities downstream of the dam in the case of dambreak and other emergencies. Information includes flood maps with indicate flooded area, flood arrival time, flood depth and duration as well as recommended evacuation sites.
The objectives of Dam Break Study for Khlong Tha Dan Project are to analyze and identify the causes of dam break in order to set up the measures against such causes, and to study and analyze the conditions of dam collapse, extent of damage including the resulting environmental effects.The scopes of study are as follows:
- Study and analysis Dam Break for Khlong Tha Dan Dam.
- Study and Setting up of Emergency Preparedness Plan (EPP).
- Study and Setting up of the Khlong Tha Dan Management Plan to ensure safety, risk reduction and efficiency.
- Provide a training for RID officials to transfer the community EPP and Khlong Tha Dan Management Plan to ensure safety, risk reduction and efficiency.
Project Highlight :
The study analyze the characteristics and phenomena of dam break occurrence, and recommended preventive measure to reduce the risk of dambreak occurrence. The results were used to develop Project Management Plan to ensure safe an efficient operation with emergency action plans.
