The Nam Ngum 2 Hydroelectric Power Project (NN2 HPP) is located approximately 90 kilometres north of Vientiane in central Lao, PDR, approximately 35 km upstream of existing Nam Ngum 1 reservoir. The Nam Ngum River is one of the major tributaries of the Mekong River which forms the border between Lao PDR and Thailand in this area.

South East Asia Energy Ltd. (SEAN) - the developer; Ch. Karnchang (Lao) Co., Ltd. - the EPC contractor; and TEAM and ATT – the design engineer, are working out to construct a 615 MW hydroelectric power plant.  The concrete-faced rockfill dam (CRFD) has the crest length of 485 metres and dam height of 182 metres. There are 2 concrete-lined horse shoe diversion tunnels. Three vertical Shaft–Francis turbines will be installed to generate the annual energy of 2,218 GWh.

Duties of the design engineer cover the recommendation on further topographic and geotechnical investigations and laboratory tests; interpretation and analysis of the survey and laboratory test results; detailed design of all project components consisting of diversion tunnels, coffer dams, concrete-faced rockfill dam, Spillway, River outlet, Power water way (tunnel and penstock), Powerhouse, Switchyard, Service road, Permanent bridge and related works; coordination and liaison with the contractor, sub-contractors, suppliers and the Independent Engineer; issuing design certificate; and clarify all the drawings.
