Project Description: Rattanakosin Sewage treatment Project was one of the first sewage collection and treatment systems set up by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration as there is an urgent need to initiate the central sewage treatment system to help improve the river and canal water qualities which were deteriorating rapidly.  The project covered the study and detailed design of wastewater collection and wastewater treatment systems for Rattanakosin area. Project area is approximately 4.14 sq.km. surrounded by Chao Phraya river, Khlong Bang Lum Poo and Khlong Ong Ang. Wastewater treatment plant locates at Ban Parn Thom, on the area about 4.2 rais.

The services provided include:

  • Detailed design of combined sewer system with interceptor and combined sewer overflow structure (CSO) for wastewater collection. Interceptors, length is about 14 m. with diameter range from 200 to 1,500 mm.
  • Detailed design of 2 storey treatment plant, using two stage activated sludge system.
  • Study the initial environmental examination
  • Financial analysis of the project and identification of the appropriate type of investment.
  • Cost estimation and prepare tender documents and construction plan.

Project Highlight :

Rattanakosin Sewage Treatment Project is one of BMA’s projects to improve water quality in the canals by treating wastewater collected from the communities before discharging into canal and the Chao Phraya river. The Project area covers Ko Rattanakosin area, which is the oldest part of bangkok where most of Bangkok’s main historical attractions are.

The wastewater treatment plant was designed as a 2-storeyed wastewater treatment plant with the external appearance of an office building to blend in with the surrounding and approved by the Fine Atrs Department. It has been operated since May, 2000 and can serve for the population of 70,000 in the service area of Phra Nakhon District. This project is not only to help improve water quality in receiving water, but also to help improve quality of life of local residents and the tourists who visit this area.
