Project Description :

“The Study and Detailed Design of the Red Line Railway System, The 4-Lines Project” is to provide new design or modification, or create renovation for enforcement of security of track structure as well as railway bridges for oncoming installation works of operational electric train system as extension from the Red Line Route of electric train system for the sections of Rangsit-Ban Phachi Junction, Makkasan-Chacheongsao, Talingchan-Nakhon Pathom, and Mahachai-Pak Tho.

Location of the 4-Lines Project includes the railway rout as follows:

  • North Line: Rangsit-Ban Phachi Junction = 60 km.
  • East Line: Makkasan-Hua Mak = 12.6 km.
  • Hua Mak-Chachoengsao = 43.2 km.
  • West Line: Talingchan-Nakorn Phatom = 43 km.
  • South Line: Mahachai-Pak Tho = 56 km.

Most of the routes are designed as at-grade railway except for the following portions which are designed as elevated structure.

  • East Line: at Makkasan-Hua Mak
  • South Line: All along the route

The structure are designed as prestressed concrete box girder with spans between 26-38 meters.  Typically, the box girder supports double tracks, except at turnout, siding or access tracks.

Where the structure passes over wide street or river, continuous spans are employed.  There are 2 types of continuous span; 40-70-40 m. and 65-12-65 m. The 40-70-40 m. spans are applied at Thachin River, Klong Sunak Hon, Klong maeklong, and Maeklong River while the 65-120-65 m. spans are applied at highway no. 325, in the southern line.

The substructure and foundation are reinforced concrete structure on pile foundation.  Typically, spun piles are used except at Makkasa to hua Mak where bored piles are used to reduce the soil movement effect.

Where track rehabilitation is required, the existing embankment shall be improved in accordance with standard U-20 loading to increase loading capacity.  The method of track rehabilitation are as follows:

(1) Jet Grouting Wall with Cement Stabilized Mat to be used where the existing tracks are closed together and where piles could not be installed

(2) Bearing Unit on Pile where some parts of existing track has to be removed.  Piles and bearing unit slab will then be installed.
